A Passage to India

The cult film A Passage to India, based on the eponymous novel by E. M. Forster and directed by the acclaimed David Lean, serves as the inspiration for this journey through the India of vibrant colours, breathtaking sunsets, luxurious palaces, tea plantations, and the golden beaches of Goa.

The story follows the life of Adela Quested (Judy Davis), who leaves Britain to marry a magistrate in the (fictional) city of Chandrapore. In India, Adela is confronted with a stark divide between the British and the Indians, but when she meets Dr. Aziz (Victor Banerjee), her own prejudices about the natives are put to the test. The film explores the rise of the Indian independence movement that culminated in the end of British rule in India in 1947.

The central scene of A Passage to India takes place during an expedition to the Barabar Caves, the most famous being the Lomas Rishi Cave, with its entrance adorned by the oldest known chandrashala, a motif featuring a circular ogee arch intricately carved into the rock. India is just that, a country overflowing with richness. Natural beauty, palaces, temples, textiles, spices, culinary delights, and cultural treasures, all underpinned by a high-end hospitality and dining experience.
