In the heart of the iconic Palácio do Governador in Belém, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Po Tat was born, a restaurant that transports its visitors to a unique experience, where Portuguese culinary tradition harmoniously merges with Asian cuisine influences. Inspired by the spirit of exploration that defined the Portuguese Discoveries, Po Tat transforms each meal into a sensory journey, recreating the meeting of cultures through taste.
The F Luxury team had the opportunity to experience this innovative concept at an exclusive dinner, where each dish served as an authentic expression of the fusion between Portuguese and Asian cuisine. From the meticulous attention to detail in the presentation of the dishes to the harmonisation of flavours, every moment was a true gastronomic journey. The warm welcome and impeccable service complemented the experience, making it memorable and worthy of a return visit.
A concept rooted in history and the fusion of flavours
The name Po Tat refers to the iconic Portuguese custard tart, known in Cantonese as Po Tat and reinterpreted in Hong Kong with British influences. This connection between different cultures serves as the starting point for a menu that celebrates diversity and culinary creativity. Combining international techniques with the finest local ingredients, the restaurant offers an innovative approach that surprises with its balance between authenticity and reinvention.
The space reflects the narrative of Portuguese maritime exploration, with contemporary decor in deep blue tones, evoking the oceans charted by navigators, contrasting with sophisticated and welcoming details. Every design element has been carefully thought out to create an immersive and elegant atmosphere, inviting visitors to embark on an experience that transcends the act of eating.
Under the direction of chef André Santos, Po Tat presents a menu that crosses continents and influences without losing the essence of national products. The chef confessed to us that he loves Asia, where he has had the pleasure of travelling. In a menu that celebrates gastronomic diversity, André states, “We try to use as many Portuguese products as possible and give them a twist with Asian spices and seasonings.” As he revealed to us, “We are not just another Asian restaurant; instead, we serve comfort food with challenging elements, more ‘outside the box’.”
Among the dishes, the chef highlights the Grilled Oyster Mushrooms with Yam and Peanuts, the Sea Bass with Jerusalem Artichoke and Seaweed Dashi Beurre Blanc, or the Grilled Alentejo Pork Presa with Quince Shio Koji and Asparagus Lettuce. To finish, the Mango Parfait with Turmeric and Yuzu Meringue. Indeed, at this restaurant, each creation tells a story, reflecting the cultural exchange of ancient trade routes.
More than a restaurant, a sensory experience
At Po Tat, every detail is designed to provide an experience that goes beyond gastronomy. The ambience, the presentation of the dishes, and the interplay of flavours invite guests into a true immersion in the fusion of influences, in a space where Portuguese heritage and Asian sophistication intertwine masterfully.
Po Tat is part of the Highgate group’s strategy, which focuses on innovation and differentiation as the pillars of its approach to dining. The combination of international influences and the appreciation of local ingredients reflects the group’s mission to create spaces that offer authentic and memorable experiences. In the heart of Lisbon, Po Tat emerges as a tribute to gastronomic diversity and the art of fine dining.
