On International Women’s Day, Cartier proudly celebrated the opening of the Women’s Pavilion, created in collaboration with the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, the Japanese government, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Gender Equality Bureau. This pavilion symbolises an ongoing celebration of visionary women who are shaping the future, highlighting their essential role in promoting equality and advancing global progress, guiding new generations.
At Cartier, women have always been an endless source of inspiration and a foundation for the maison’s creativity and values. The brand advocates for gender equality, believing that when women thrive, humanity thrives. For many years, Cartier has collaborated with other stakeholders to address urgent global challenges, reaffirming its commitment to collective action and dialogue. The Women’s Pavilion serves as a global platform to promote these principles.
The Pavilion will be present at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, in Japan, from 13 April to 13 October 2025, with a powerful manifesto at its core, calling for a future where everyone, regardless of gender, lives in equality and harmony, with mutual respect and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Cyrille Vigneron, President of Cartier Culture and Philanthropy, stated: “The Women’s Pavilion will celebrate the vital role of women, alongside committed men, in building a shared future. Through this platform, Cartier and Expo 2025 Osaka invite everyone to be part of a transformative journey, both personally and collectively.”
Inspired by the Expo’s theme, Living Together, Designing Together, For the Future, the Women’s Pavilion celebrates the transformative power of women in building a better tomorrow. Through the motto “ともに生き, Living Together”, it encourages reflection on the harmonious coexistence between societies, regions, and individuals, emphasising environmental responsibility and symbiosis with the planet. Aligned with the Expo’s global theme “ともに輝く, Designing Together”, the Pavilion envisions a future where collaboration and innovation form the foundations of a more equitable society.
June Miyachi, President and CEO of Cartier Japan, added: “We are honoured to be the guardians of this second edition of the Women’s Pavilion, following Expo 2020 Dubai. What can we do, regardless of gender, to thrive together? We hope this pavilion inspires everyone to reflect and take action for a brighter future.”
The Pavilion’s façade, inspired by Kumiko and designed by architect Yuko Nagayama, symbolises the connection between tradition and modernity. This unique structure, repurposed from Expo 2020 Dubai, reflects Cartier’s commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship, while the regenerative cycle of nature is symbolised by local trees that will be returned to the mountains of Osaka after the Expo.
The Pavilion’s curation will be led by artist and Global Artistic Director Es Devlin, transforming the exhibition into an immersive experience. Featuring a prelude film by Naomi Kawase and contributions from artists such as Mélanie Laurent, Hiro Chiba, Mariko Mori, Toshiya Ogino, and Chitose Abe, the Pavilion will be a vibrant space for reflection and collective action. Through art and innovation, visitors will be invited to engage in shifts of perspective, reflecting on gender equality and pressing global issues.
The second floor of the Pavilion will house the WA space, dedicated to discussions on six global themes: Mother Nature, Business and Technology, Education and Politics, Arts and Culture, Philanthropy and Roles, and Identities. Here, visionaries, activists, and experts will collaborate on real solutions to the challenges of our time.
