As the world continues its eternal rotation, creativity never ceases to bring forth exciting novelties, especially from across the Atlantic. Brazilian design, already celebrated through names like Sérgio Rodrigues, the Campana Brothers, and Joaquim Tenreiro, now introduces Anna Maya, a designer who redefines the world of furniture by incorporating spheres and rounded shapes in contexts previously unexplored.
Just as the great masters of design once challenged aesthetic and functional conventions – creating pieces that were initially seen as intriguing but later became timeless icons – Anna Maya follows her own path. With a completely original style, she carves out a new direction where art and technology converge, offering sensory and visual experiences in tune with the artificial intelligence era, currently in the spotlight.
In the highly competitive design industry, Anna Maya stands out for the strong identity of her creations, marked by an unmistakable signature. From the very first sketches, spherical shapes have been a constant feature, breaking with established traditions. A prime example of this innovative approach is the Gugo armchair, inspired by the iconic MSN logo, featuring a convex seat that challenges conventional concepts of this type of furniture. The human body also serves as an important source of inspiration for the designer.
Anna Maya’s career in design began during the pandemic when, confined at home, she gave free rein to her creativity, designing furniture as a pastime. However, her experience spans nearly three decades, dating back to her studies in Architecture, which established her as a leading professional in Florianópolis, in southern Brazil.
Originally from São Paulo, Anna Maya graduated from Santa Úrsula University in Rio de Janeiro and holds a specialisation in Art History from the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro. Based in Florianópolis since 1996, she has gained recognition by serving clients throughout Brazil and internationally, boasting an impressive portfolio that includes fourteen participations in CASACOR Santa Catarina and a total of 22 architecture and interior design exhibitions.
An undeniable reference in the Santa Catarina design scene, Anna Maya Arquitetura celebrates 25 years of history, affirming itself through its unique identity, with a contemporary and functional language, always committed to translating each client’s life and personality. This personalised approach is combined with creative and distinctive technical solutions. Now, she is looking to make herself known and expand onto the global stage!
Returning to design, Anna has already developed over eighty furniture projects, many of which have received national and international recognition. Sofas, armchairs, buffets, bars, tables, and chairs make up a portfolio defined by the simplicity of pure geometric forms, resulting in elegant and timeless creations. Her work has earned international acclaim, such as the Samba bookshelf, which won bronze in 2023 at the Lusophone Architecture and Interior Design Awards in the Product Design category. That same year, the piece was also a finalist in Brazil’s Prêmio Salão Design competition.
In 2025, Anna Maya consolidates her place on the global stage as one of the hundred designers invited to feature in the prestigious 100th Anniversary Book of the Hague System – 100 Iconic Designs, a collection showcasing the most iconic designs of the past century. She will take part in Fuorisalone, the renowned Milan Design Week, at the Tropicalistic’s exhibition “Between Earth and Sky – The Voices of Brazilian Design”, from 8 to 13 April, aiming to share her work with an audience keenly focused on trends and innovations in the field. This flagship event will allow the Brazilian designer not only to present her creations but also to establish valuable connections with industry professionals and draw inspiration from the avant-garde proposals on display.
At the same time, Anna is developing an outdoor furniture collection that will soon be unveiled. This new line promises to uphold her distinctive signature, featuring pure geometric shapes and innovative solutions that blend aesthetics with functionality, perfectly suited to outdoor spaces. The collection emerges as a natural extension of her relentless creativity and reflects her commitment to exploring new frontiers in contemporary design.
