This season, Dinh Van revisits the Maillon motif, a symbol of the maison, with new models and redefined proportions. With a sensual design that follows the body’s curves, these pieces introduce new graphic forms to the collection, highlighting the motif’s aesthetic in diamond-set gold. Two necklaces and bracelets in yellow and white gold bring a contemporary touch to the Maillon, blending varied sizes for a modern look.
Among the new additions is a version with a central XL Maillon link, joining the gold collection. Additionally, a unique arm piece reveals the XL Maillon design, adjustable to all sizes and perfect for completing any look.
Maillon by Dinh Van – geometric instinct
In the world of jewellery, the link was originally conceived as a simple assembly component. In 1968, Jean Dinh Van elevated it to a unique status, sculpting it by hand to create an innovative shape: a rectangle with softened corners. Until then, links were traditionally round or oval, primarily used to connect central elements without drawing attention away from them. Jean Dinh Van revolutionised this approach, beginning his journey as a jewellery sculptor and crafting his own vocabulary that defied the established codes of Place Vendôme. A perfectionist with a passion for minimalist geometric figures, he meticulously refined the proportions of this essential component.
Inspired by the decorative links of Place de l’Opéra, Jean Dinh Van created the first square-section link, which became the brand’s iconic Maillon.
Unique and iconoclastic – the Dinh Van engagement proposal
This same form extends into the Dinh Van engagement line. Fascinated by the square shape, Jean Dinh Van introduced the notion of comfort in jewellery, designing wedding bands and engagement rings as everyday pieces, true “jewels to be worn in the street.” With a square structure, the Flore and Capucine engagement rings (named in homage to Paris) are immediately recognisable and designed to stay securely in place on the finger.
