Barénia is the name given to a natural leather, a symbol of Hermès’ heritage and identity. “The Hermès woman is driven by curiosity. Guided by her instinct, her detours are never mistakes,” says Christine Nagel, creative director and custodian of Hermès Parfums’ olfactory heritage.
Inspired by the old dog collars created by Hermès, the Collier de chien bracelet became an iconic and timeless piece of the maison. The union of leather and metal transformed this accessory into a symbol of elegance and irreverence, adopted by women during the “Roaring Twenties” as an emblem of independence. Since then, the Collier de chien spirit has been frequently revisited, with new interpretations of lines, colors, materials, and textures in various Hermès métiers, inspiring creations that range from handbags to objects and, now for the first time, to a perfume bottle. Long-time partner of the maison, designer Philippe Mouquet drew inspiration from the iconic Collier de chien bracelet to design a perfume bottle with precise curves and precious metal details. Its elliptical shape, adorned with a metal plate with four rounded pyramid studs, reflects the lines of the bracelet. The codes of Hermès’ heritage harmoniously come together to create a striking bottle, symbolizing a fragrance with a timeless signature.
The perfume is presented in sophisticated packaging with graphic elements. A metallic ellipse, evoking the bottle, intertwines with the “H” of “Hermès.” At the center, the name Barénia appears in bold red letters, an assertive and striking color. This perfect balance of forces conveys the essence and inspiration of the perfume in just a few lines. The Barénia collection also includes a perfumed cream in an elegant glass jar, extending the experience of the new chypre on the skin, accompanied by a perfumed soap engraved with the initial “H.”
