Inspired and driven by the vast and untamed wild landscapes, Sauvage now ventures into new territory, in tune with its pioneering spirit. Sauvage Eau Forte establishes itself as the first high-concentration men’s fragrance with an innovative water-based, alcohol-free formula, created exclusively by Dior.
Guided by the symbolism, physical power, and narrative of water, Francis Kurkdjian envisioned a composition that is both woody and musky, but with intense freshness. Sauvage Eau Forte combines opposites, evoking the image of a turbulent waterfall that unites sky and earth. This fragrance explores uncharted territory in fresh fougère with spices, celebrating an innovative sense of freshness. Thanks to the revolutionary use of water to “saturate” the ingredients, the unexpected fusion of freshness and persistence is highlighted with great intensity.
Through the veil of the waterfall, from one world to another, an essential connection emerges that creates harmony between opposites and reveals a vital force in unity. Inspired by the symbolism and power of water, as powerful as it is hypnotic, Francis Kurkdjian reinterprets the characteristic freshness of Sauvage, capturing the power and depth of water, both vital and symbolic, where opposing movements find harmony. To enhance his creative vision, he relied on Dior’s exclusive innovative nanoemulsion technology.
“The fall of a waterfall is an imposing, dazzling, and mesmerizing spectacle. The idea of water being a link between the sky and the earth, encapsulated in a fragrance that conveys this incredible power, was fundamental to me. At the heart of this vibrant fragrance, a dialogue of aromas is born. The legendary freshness of Sauvage is transformed into a space where contradictions reconcile, and opposing movements create unity. This fragrance is truly an ‘eau forte,’ an intense and remarkable expression of vibrant freshness,” says Francis Kurkdjian.
For this new Sauvage Eau Forte, a water-based, alcohol-free formula was chosen to renew and expand its signature freshness. This composition benefits from Dior’s innovative high-pressure nanoemulsion technique, combining a unique aqueous base with a highly potent oil-based fragrance concentrate. The result is a highly concentrated water with a distinctive milky hue. The skin is imbued with the power and harmony of Sauvage Eau Forte for hours.
Using water in its formula to create a new olfactory experience, Sauvage Eau Forte combines the freshness of an eau de toilette with the intensity of a parfum. Instead of momentarily overwhelming the senses and dissipating quickly, the spices are “saturated” with water and unfold unexpectedly: their freshness becomes stronger, more persistent, reinventing themselves as both “cold” and “hot” spices that linger. The warm and the cold become indistinguishable. Similarly, the lavender releases its top aromatic notes, leaving only its sensual base of almonds and licorice, intensified by water. The woods are also enveloped by this surprising water, inviting intense musks whose power reaches new dimensions.
The bottle of Sauvage Eau Forte reflects the spirit of the fragrance, with glass shades evoking the technique of etching. The intense gradient, from black to midnight blue to clear, adorns the bottle that contains this tumultuous water.
In turn, Johnny Depp, in search of vast wild lands, leaves the desert and plunges into the majestic setting of a waterfall to embody the spirit of Sauvage Eau Forte. Under the gaze of Jean-Baptiste Mondino, the actor is in sync with the natural elements, in a new preserved and untamable world. Serene in front of the turbulent waterfall, Johnny captures the vital force of this mystical environment that connects sky and earth.
