The innovative Spring Drive concept emerged in the 1970s, with the ambition of creating the ideal watch by combining the energy of a mainspring with cutting-edge electronic technologies, achieving a level of precision unattainable by any conventional mechanical watch. Since then, this revolutionary technology has evolved, becoming a symbol worthy of Grand Seiko and receiving the designation 9R movement.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Calibre 9R series, and to celebrate the occasion, two new Spring Drive creations have been added to the Elegance collection. Inspired by the serene majesty of the Hotaka mountain range at dawn and the vibrant metamorphosis of autumn leaves under the same morning light, these pieces pay tribute to the natural beauty of the Shinshu region in the heart of Japan, where all Grand Seiko Spring Drive creations are meticulously crafted.
Inspired by the morning glow on the Hotaka mountain range and the stunning transition of autumn leaves at first light
The gradation on the dial of the first of these new creations captures the exact moment the sun rises. As the steep landscape of the Hotaka range turns a vibrant red, the morning light shines upon the autumn leaves emerging from the shadows. This breathtaking scene is reflected on the dial, which features a dark red color at the periphery, gradually fading to a lighter shade at the center. In perfect harmony with the smooth and silent movement of the Spring Drive second hand, the dial sublimely conveys the natural passage of time.
This watch offers a remarkable combination of elegance, robustness, and precision. With a thickness of just 10.2 mm, a power reserve of 72 hours, and a precision of ±15 seconds per month, ensured by the manual-winding 9R31 Spring Drive caliber, this piece is a true masterpiece.
Presented with a reddish-brown crocodile leather strap, this new creation will be released as a limited edition of 700 units, available at Grand Seiko boutiques and selected retailers worldwide, such as David Rosas in Portugal, starting in November 2024.
