Inspired by an iconic racing yacht, Mercedes-Maybach has launched a singular limousine featuring a luxurious interior that combines white leather, crystal, and wood with aluminum accents.
In recent years, nautical design has become a notable trend in the highly exclusive and customized luxury car segment. The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is undoubtedly one of the best examples of this emerging fashion. Now, Mercedes has decided to follow this trend, creating its own custom luxury sedan inspired by yachts.
This special project was developed by the German brand’s Manufaktur division. The car in question is a Mercedes-Maybach S680, a one-of-a-kind edition that celebrates the 150th anniversary of Robbe & Berking, a prestigious brand known for its elegant yachts. Presented as the most exclusive Maybach ever, the luxury sedan incorporates design elements inspired by the Sphinx 12mR yacht. This racing yacht, made of wood, was built by Robbe & Berking in 1939 and is highly esteemed in sailing circles. Over the years, it has passed through several hands and was fully restored by Robbe & Berking in 2005.
The exclusive Maybach S680 pays tribute to the yacht by reflecting its elegant two-tone color scheme, which combines metallic nautical blue on the upper part with Manufaktur Patagonia Red paint on the lower part. A fine Manufaktur Opalite White line separates the two colors on the body, echoing the yacht’s white waterline.
Inside, the nautical theme continues to dominate. Every detail, from the seats to the headliner, door panels, and even the glove compartment, is upholstered in exclusive Maybach Manufaktur Nappa leather. The luxurious Crystal White leather, adorned with diamond-pattern quilting and Orion Gray stitching, adds an elegant contrast. The walnut wood finish, along with the aluminum strips, is meticulously crafted to resemble the deck of a yacht.
Additionally, the interior includes custom rear leather pillows, Maybach embossing, and illuminated side sills. This luxurious limousine is equipped with a hand-built 6.0-liter V12 engine, capable of producing 621 horsepower.
By honoring the rich nautical tradition with this model, Mercedes-Maybach has succeeded in creating a symbol of exclusivity and luxury, celebrating the fusion of automotive engineering and the elegance of classic yachts.
