The film Oppenheimer was the big winner of Hollywood’s Cinema Awards night, almost reaching a hundred years! Christopher Nolan’s film takes home seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and Best Director (Christopher Nolan). The drama, which tells the story of American physicist Robert Oppenheimer, known as the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, did not lag, despite the box office battles with Barbie and all the ‘barbie-mania’ generated. This is also Robert Downey Jr.’s first Oscar, who had been nominated in the past, a fact the actor thanked on stage: “I would like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order,” he said, adding: “I needed this job more than it needed me” — we read in The Guardian. Nolan’s film also won the Academy Awards for Best Editing, Cinematography, and Soundtrack.
In turn, actress Emma Stone visibly moved and took to the stage to receive the award for Best Leading Actress for her performance in Poor Things. This is the second time Stone has taken home the golden statuette (La La Land, 2017), in a film that was also honored with Oscars for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup & Hairstyling. Also notable was the early evening stage appearance of Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won the award for Best Supporting Actress in The Holdovers. The box office success Barbie appeared with Ryan Gosling’s performance and Billie Eilish’s win for Best Original Song.
Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel livened up Hollywood’s star-studded night, not without a ‘message’ for Donald Trump, who had insulted the actor/comedian on social media: “I was told we had an extra minute, and I’m very proud of something and I’d like to know if I could share it with you. I just received a review,” Kimmel said before taking out his phone to read Trump’s post on ‘Truth Social’ aloud.
Music, sets, speeches, celebrity parade, and high emotions summarize another night dedicated to the best of the Seventh Art, in what is already one of the most anticipated nights of the year for all lovers and protagonists of Cinema.
