The Chinese Lunar New Year 2024 is just around the corner, scheduled for February 10. Unlike the conventional calendar, the celebration this time is dedicated to the Year of the Dragon and spans over several days.
According to Chinese tradition, the dragon is symbolized as an icon of authority, honor, and dignity, historically associated with imperial power. The Year of the Dragon is therefore considered auspicious, believed to bring with it the ability to harness intelligence, leadership, and creative endeavors.
As the Lunar New Year approaches, various fashion, beauty and watch brands have been launching products in honor of the Year of the Dragon. These limited-edition products have been incorporated into some collections, of which we present a selection.
Fendi x Frgmt x Pokémon
As part of its “Friends of Fendi” project, Fendi has collaborated with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment and Pokémon for a collection of accessories celebrating the Year of the Dragon. The Fendi x Frgmt x Pokémon collection highlights Dratini, Dragonair and Dragonite, three dragon-type Pokémon from the first generation of Pokémon, which flutter around in ladies’ wallets, backpacks, totes, and a travelling bag, adorned and transformed into mini pop monuments. On all the pieces, Fujiwara’s signature FRGMT is reinterpreted in Fendi’s iconic FF jacquard logo. The collaboration will be available in Fendi boutiques around the world and on fendi.com.
Jimmy Choo
To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, Jimmy Choo has launched seven wallets, each with a handmade three-dimensional dragon between the brand’s JC monogram, which symbolizes good luck and prosperity. They are also studded with crystals, which represent the joyful future of the new year. This collection is made up of two bag silhouettes: the Avenue mini shoulder and the Avenue phone bag. The mini will be presented in gold, pink and an option with multicolored crystals, and the phone bag will be presented in gold and pink, with a quilted finish and set with crystals.
Gucci
The Gucci Year of the Dragon capsule collection is complemented by a captivating narrative with actress Tian XiWei. This narrative unfolds through portraits and intimate scenes, exploring the collective imagery associated with this joyous time of year. In the campaign, the 26-year-old Chinese artist presents various ensembles from the ready-to-wear range, bags, shoes and accessories from the capsule collection. These creations ingeniously reinterpret the house’s iconic motifs, infusing them with allusions to the symbolism of the dragon. From knitwear to iconic wallets and accessories, this collection exudes the spirit of the festive season.
Piaget
41mm Altiplano High Jewellery Dragon. A skillfully crafted metiers d’art watch is truly inspiring, and when you have the talented enameller Anita Porchet leading the design, you can guarantee results of extreme elegance. In this case, she employs the paillone enamel technique to create a dazzling sunburst effect on the engraved dial, providing a stunning backdrop for the engraving of a dragon in gold. The creature’s eyes are meticulously crafted in red lacquer, while the sphere it holds is made from iridescent black opal. There are only eight copies of this exclusive piece.
Vacheron Constantin
Les Cabinotiers Grisaille Dragon. In honor of the countries to which Vacheron Constantin expanded at the beginning of its history, the Les Cabinotiers – Recits de Voyages collection is a series of unique multicultural pieces. Included in the dazzling line-up is an ode to China, with a five-clawed dragon realized in grisaille enamel. The 16th century technique uses white enamel on a dark enamel base to enhance the play of light and shadow without the use of vibrant colors, but this is the first time the brand has used green enamel to achieve this effect and it is also the first grisaille watch to be set with precious stones.
