I am passionate about well-being therapies, and whenever I can, I reserve a few hours or days to explore a new spa—or revisit those where I’ve had the opportunity to be—many of them nestled in the most beautiful hotels in the world, such as Six Senses Douro Valley, where each moment is unique. Where every minute is worth an hour.
Six Senses Douro Valley is a luxury hotel and spa located in the Douro Valley, Portugal, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its vineyard landscapes and natural surroundings, widely praised in both national and international press. Among all the amenities this hotel offers, and which we never tire of praising, its luxury spa stands out—a paradise of indulgence and relaxation, an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This exquisite wellness temple, designed to provide a holistic experience, combines opulent environments with a variety of rejuvenating treatments aimed at promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being. That is what brings me here today. I had the pleasure of returning to Six Senses Douro Valley recently, for two days of total disconnection from the busy world outside, and I still remember its atmosphere of tranquility and serenity, the care put into its design, the natural elements—water, stone, and wood—the soft colors… in short, a whole ambiance that is also an integral part of the overall experience I was provided.
This magnificent setting, the privilege of being surrounded by the country’s most beautiful nature, invites many experiences, especially in its internationally renowned spa—from a dip in the indoor pool with panoramic views of the forest to the enjoyment of relaxation provided by underwater sound therapy, to name a few of its features. The Six Senses Douro Valley spa includes, in addition to spaces for reception and a shop, a Nail Bar and an Alchemy Bar, ten treatment rooms, consultation rooms, the Vitality Suite—with a traditional sauna, infrared sauna, steam bath, laconium, and herbal sauna—the Fitness Center, and the Yoga Studio. The indoor pool, equipped with underwater music therapy, chromotherapy, and massage jets, the Vitaly Pool, and Cryotherapy are among its other offerings. The treatment menu is extensive and highly recommended, and today I know it is considered one of the most comprehensive and alternative ones.
New treatments, including chromotherapy and cryotherapy, are complemented by restorative experiences, such as a forest walk or physical activities from the available on-demand classes led by the Personal Trainers’ team.
A walk through the forest in the Douro is all this if you ever visit this special retreat. And if you do, give yourself a small but significant gift and immerse yourself body and soul in the wonderful Six Senses Douro Valley spa.
