Attended the Pineapple Dance Studio in London and worked as a choreographer for Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, among other names in the entertainment industry. In Portugal, Paulo was also a dancer on the show “Chuva de Estrelas” until the day Paulo envisioned other possibilities, recognizing his full potential and creative capacity. Thus, PMP Eventos was born, which has now accumulated more than two decades of success.
What is PMP Eventos all about?
It’s a creative vessel sailing the oceans of imagination, powered by passion. It carries a very special crew, recognized as pioneers and innovators in how they organize shows and events, elevating them to a higher level. From the corporate sector to culture, entertainment, in Portugal and in over 25 countries, our work aims to fulfill the dreams of each client and spectator, steering towards ‘out-of-the-box’ solutions. Currently, the company employs over a thousand professionals from various artistic fields. In 2019, Big Idea Portugal was born, a creative hub for businesses related to the creative, artistic, and technological industries, bringing together micro-enterprises/projects from various sectors in the same space – one of which received an award from Web Summit Portugal. This hub also includes two production studios for image, chroma, and photography, as well as a workshop for wardrobe and props production.
What types of events are included in your portfolio?
We are an all-terrain company. We organize events of low, medium, and high intensity, and these designations relate to the size of the venues, number of guests, audiovisuals, overall production, artistic elements, and many other factors that are part of every production and organization. Event production, artistic direction, brand activation, performing arts, entertainment, and other categories within the seven arts, including major summer festivals, are all part of our range of activities.
You coined a term to define what you love doing, “dreamar”. How would you define it?
The word was born in the act of creation! The first thing that comes to mind is riding the world’s biggest wave without a safety net: let’s “dreamar!” It’s when we lift our feet off the ground and take flight, drawing inspiration from the best in the world and having the privilege to think of the impossible to create the possible.
What tools do you use to stay updated?
“I create, therefore I exist”. This quote describes our approach to the market. Staying updated and innovating are predominant values for us. Being aware of new trends to add more value to our creativity and offer more innovative and creative solutions is on our radar. The internet plays a fundamental role; it’s how we stay updated about what’s new in this sector in the international market. Famous hashtags and trends provide information about what’s new because clients are becoming more demanding, researching, reading reviews, checking the credibility of companies, and wanting to work with the most innovative ones. Additionally, the alliance of creative minds is crucial: a team challenged to create and develop new concepts becomes a source of innovation in itself.
What are the biggest challenges you face, and how do you overcome them?
We are a team wearing the yellow jersey, pedaling and always looking forward! This is the biggest challenge: setting the creative trends in our field. One of the major challenges is related to the size of our geography; that’s why we are also focusing on the internationalization of PMP Eventos.
Who is your main inspiration? What motivates you the most?
My inspiration is undoubtedly Franco Dragone, a multidisciplinary man and the creator of eighteen shows for Cirque du Soleil that have never left the stage! I am motivated by seeing people who realize their dreams, who do what they truly love, no matter their form of art or artistic expression.
What recent notable success story or event would you share with our readers?
We were challenged to produce a show as part of the World Youth Day celebrations in the city park in Porto. We portrayed the history of all World Youth Days, from the first edition to the most recent one in Portugal, involving about 100 artists from various fields, a production team, technical staff, wardrobe designers, musicians, visual effects technicians, cranes capable of lifting artists up to 100 meters, laser shows, and much more. It was remarkable due to the short time we had for creation, planning, implementation, and execution, and because of the client’s feedback. Their expectations were exceeded, and they said they would do everything to take the show to various parts of the world.
What’s coming up next for PMP Eventos?
Strengthening an already strong team, capable of delivering more than requested, staying at the forefront, creating solutions and products to impact more and more clients and the general public. We are growing sustainably, and we have many dreams and goals to achieve that, for strategic reasons, I can’t reveal yet. But our focus is on the team and clients, and our plans are in leading the sector. The goals are well-defined in the universe!
How was it to conceptualize the sunset dinatoire for F Club?
It was a great challenge! The alliance of minds was immediate; Fátima Magalhães is an excellent leader with a broad vision. F Club is a triumphant brand, and for us, designing and producing this event is a matter of pride. Being with the best at the forefront is one of our objectives.
