On October 28th, fashion designer Nuno Gama celebrated the 30th anniversary of his brand with an independent runway show open to the public at São Jorge Castle in Lisbon.
Featuring approximately 100 looks, the runway show showcased the Fall-Winter 2023 Essence collection and the launch of a capsule collection created in collaboration with Sport Lisboa e Benfica. The musical accompaniment for the show was provided by Charanga and the GNR Symphonic Orchestra, along with the beat of adufe and the voice of Edgar Valente performing the poem “Ser” written by poet Pedro Freitas.
The Essence collection, commemorating 30 years of the Nuno Gama brand, was a celebration and homage to Portuguese identity and essence, dear to the creator. It drew inspiration from the restlessness of a king who changed borders by deciding to create a country, and the work of an artist who melds influences as diverse as the territories Portuguese people have explored around the world.
The collection merged the brand’s usual tailoring codes with its trademark humor, combining the classic sobriety of blazers and suits with bold patterns in linings, emblems, and cuts. Patterns inspired by the geometries of artist and Master José Guimarães’ work breathed life into feather jackets and bombers. Post-modern armors and multicolored patchworks also appeared, dominated by austere tones such as black, gray, and red.
As for the capsule collection “Nuno Gama X Sport Lisboa e Benfica,” it marked the beginning of a collaboration between two renowned brands in the sports and fashion industries, aiming to deepen their connection with more diverse audiences.
“When Benfica invited me for this collaboration, my enthusiasm was immediate! It was the opportunity to work with a club that shares the same values of identity and pride in being Portuguese. The collection reflects that pride, both in the quality of materials used and in the reinterpretation of the Eagle, the symbol of their greatness. These pieces combine sports codes with everyday elements, making them accessible to everyone,” stated Nuno Gama.
This event marked the first time in three decades that Nuno Gama organized a runway show under his own name outside the ModaLisboa schedule. Whether due to the “maturity” achieved by his eponymous brand or the celebration of Portuguese heritage, the fashion designer deserves congratulations! F Luxury wishes him the utmost happiness and success.
