The two new limited editions from Montblanc’s Star Legacy collection offer an aerial view of the Mont Blanc peak. In turn, the new Star Legacy Grey capsule collection is inspired by the other side of Mont Blanc.
There are several design elements integrated into the Star Legacy collections. The late 19th and early 20th-century Minerva pocket watches serve as the inspiration for their silhouette, featuring polished, round pebble-shaped cases and onion crowns. They are also distinguished by the Montblanc emblem on the crown and pointed sword-shaped hands coated in rose gold and luminescence.
Star Legacy Blue Exploding Star
These two limited editions include an automatic model with a date function and a day-date chronograph. Each model is limited to 800 units and comes in a 43mm satin-finished stainless steel case with polished details. The caseback is open to allow the user to appreciate the intricacies of the internal mechanical movements. The case was increased to 43mm in 2020. It wasn’t just a change in size, but a new expression and sense of elegance for the watches.
The Star Legacy Automatic Date features a beautiful blue dial with rose gold-coated hands and numbers. It also houses the automatic MB 24.17 movement with a power reserve of 38 hours, displaying hours, minutes, seconds, and date. This model presents a lovely contrast of colors, with the minute scale highlighted by small luminescent dots every five minutes and touches of orange every 15 minutes.
The Star Legacy Day & Date Chronograph features the same design elements as the automatic date watch but includes a chronograph, day, and date functions. These practical indications, combined with the Star Legacy design, create a beautiful blend of classic watchmaking and casual elegance. With the automatic MB 25.07 movement and a power reserve of 48 hours, this watch can be worn for any occasion.
Star Legacy Grey Capsule Collection
The 39mm Star Legacy Automatic Date comes in a stainless steel case with rose gold-coated hands and Arabic numerals, as well as an ornate dial with a glacial grey motif. The Montblanc emblem is found on the seconds hand and on the dial just above the date, allowing them to intersect every minute.
The 42mm Star Legacy Moon Phase watch is a precious complication that displays the moon phases at 6 o’clock and overlays the grey glacial motif in the background. The model features elegant moon and star motifs coated in rose gold on a blue background. This is completed with a circular date indicator.
The 42mm Star Legacy Chronograph features two counters at 3 and 9 o’clock for an elegant appearance and excellent legibility. The grey glacial motif can be seen in the background, and the filet sauté has been replaced with an inner rim to add volume to the dial. Time functions are displayed with rose gold-coated leaf-shaped hands, while the chronograph indications use rhodium-coated “baton” hands.
All three models feature an interchangeable grey crocodile-patterned leather strap. They are limited to 1786 units to commemorate Jacques Balmat’s legendary first ascent of Mont Blanc on August 8, 1786. And because Balmat wasn’t only fascinated by the mountains but also sought gold, the dials of these new watches are adorned with rose gold-coated hands and indices, honoring this adventurer and creating an elegant contrast with the grey glacial motif.
