Congratulations to Tivoli Hotels & Resorts! In this year of 2023, it is celebrating 90 years of unique experiences. An event that evokes nine decades of incredible stories, but also confirms the brand’s ambitious expansion to new destinations, with new experiences full of glamour.
Tivoli Hotels & Resorts was born in 1933 with the opening of the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, in the heart of Lisbon. What was once just a hotel unit on the most prestigious avenue in the Portuguese capital has become an iconic set of hotels and resorts in destinations all over the world: from Portugal to the Netherlands and Brazil, from Qatar to China, and soon in Spain and Italy.
Celebrating its 90th anniversary in style, Tivoli launches new experiences that will remain in your memory forever. The Timeless Tour by Tivoli and Room 90 are two proposals carefully designed with the Tivoli signature, which are now presented on the website dedicated to the anniversary.
The Timeless Tour by Tivoli is a 10-night offer tailored for guests to enjoy a journey between the brand’s five-star hotels in Portugal, filled with luxury, comfort and adventure. The suggested itinerary is to start in Lisbon, at the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade – the cradle of the brand’s history, then pass by the Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, in Sintra, and continue to the Tivoli Carvoeiro and Tivoli Marina Vilamoura, in the Algarve. This itinerary will take guests along the best of what Portugal has to offer, discovering the most picturesque roads, the local arts and crafts and the most typical shops, with the added glamor of being able to take this tour in a vintage car, to bring the true character of the 1930s.
Room 90 brings the renewed pleasure of a hotel night, in a room designed to surprise and delight with unique details to provide an unforgettable experience. This offer is already available in Lisbon, Sintra, Carvoeiro, Vilamoura and Amsterdam, with more destinations coming soon. Room 90 at the Tivoli Palácio de Seteais includes a two-night stay in the Royal Suite, specially decorated with silver pieces from the century-old Portuguese brand Leitão & Irmão, along with some of the best gastronomic experiences at the hotel, such as the Dining Delight, the Tea das Rainhas and the picnic in the gardens, among many other details. At the Tivoli Doelen, Room 90 includes a two-night stay in the Rembrandt Suite, where an exact replica of The Knight of the Night hangs. The stay also includes a boat trip along the canals of Amsterdam, a private guided tour of the neighborhood where the hotel is located and where Rembrandt lived, including two entrance tickets to the Rembrandt Museum, and even a gastronomic offer with a tea service and Dining Delight. All details about Room 90 offers are available online and guests can choose their destination and book.
During the next 12 months of celebrations, all Tivoli hotels will prepare delicious moments to share with their guests, bringing the pillars of the brand to life. From special concerts to wine dinners, from wellness getaways to local events, guests can enjoy a full program of activities, at each Tivoli destination.
The year celebrating the brand’s 90th anniversary is also the year of brand expansion in Europe with the Tivoli Doelen Hotel in Amsterdam and the first all-inclusive with the Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort in Portugal, both inaugurated in March, and the next launches for this summer with the Tivoli La Caleta Resort in Tenerife, Spain, and the Tivoli Portopiccolo Sistiana Resort in northern Italy.
A success history
Inaugurated in March 1933, the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade soon became a true landmark of the city and a meeting place for celebrities, heads of state, actors, artists and royalty.
In 1955, the brand was joined by the Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, an 18th-century palace in the historic town of Sintra, and at the turn of the century, in 1999, the brand added its first resorts in the main tourist destinations in the Algarve, in Vilamoura – with the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura and its unique location – and in Carvoeiro, on the edge of the cliff, with the Tivoli Carvoeiro.
In 2006, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts launched outside Portugal by acquiring its first property in Brazil: the Tivoli Ecoresort Praia do Forte, in Salvador da Bahia, followed by the Tivoli Mofarrej São Paulo, in February 2009.
After being acquired by Minor Hotels, the Tivoli brand arrived in the Middle East in 2018 with three properties in Qatar and made its debut in Asia in 2022 with the launch of the Tivoli Chengdu Cultural Heritage Park in China.
Over these nine decades, several generations of timeless travelers have left their mark on the history of Tivoli: Marlene Dietrich, Beatriz Costa, Jorge Amado, Astor Piazzolla, Maria Callas, Neil Armstrong, Omar Sharif, Montserrat Caballé, Mário Vargas Llosa, Plácido Domingo, Geraldine Chaplin, Andrea Bocelli, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Beyoncé and Jay Z, among many others, who make Tivoli their home.
Tivoli’s doors will remain open to receive those looking for unique moments of slow living in Portugal, Brazil, Qatar, China, Holland, and very soon in Spain and Italy, and in new and exciting destinations around the world.
