As part of last year’s Watches & Wonders, Patek Philippe unveiled the references 5326G-001 and 5226G-001. The launch was a real success, as two pieces belonging to the Calatrava collection were released for the first time, although with an innovative, modern and exceptional dial.
These two references feature a vintage charcoal gray dial with a fine gradation and by its unprecedented slightly granular texture, reminiscent of the surface of old photo cameras. Another feature common to both references are the two interchangeable straps, one in beige leather with a nobuck texture and the other in black leather with embossed textile finish and beige decorative stitching.
In reference 5326G-001, Patek Philippe combines for the first time the patented Annual Calendar and the Travel Time second time zone indication system. The aim was to make them interact in such a way as to synchronize the indicated date with the local time, i.e., that of the place where the wearer is located, and for it to change, forward or backward, whenever the time zone is controlled by the crown. To offer this unprecedented functionality, a new mechanical movement, the automatic caliber 31-260 PS QA LU FUS 24H, was designed. The new self-winding movement, endowed with eight patents to improve accuracy, performance, reliability, safety and ease of use, is housed in a completely new Calatrava-style case with the Clous de Paris pattern, emblematic of Patek Philippe’s style, guilloched all along the sides.
Reference 5226G-001, on the other hand, also features the case flank decorated with the guilloched Clous de Parishobnail pattern, typical of the manufacture. So as to enable this guilloched motif to continue around the entire caseband, the designers have also devised a distinctive case construction in which the lugs are an integral part of the case back.
This new model is driven by self-winding caliber 26-330 S C powering the hours, minutes, central seconds, aperture-type date and stop-seconds mechanism.
